Our class thoroughly enjoyed our visit from Susan. We learnt new skills and techniques and produced collograph prints of endangered animals. The children were so impressed and proud of their work and were excited to use their newly learned skills again. Susan was brilliant with the children and took her time to explain effectively what to do and encouraged them to let their creativity flow!  Thanks again for your help, knowledge and experience.
Rebecca Sohanpol, Cotton End Forest School Year 6

We have a high intake of children with EAL and SEND, Susan dealt with them really well and broke each step down, so the children could understand and achieve. Susan was good to work with in the lead up to the workshop too and was always readily available to communicate with and was very accommodating. She linked the workshop perfectly with what the children were already working on. This helped the children to make links with the topic. We great fun working with Susan and created some fantastic pieces of art work.

Hannah Mason, Shackelton Primary School Year 1

Monoprinting Year 9

Students used found objects combined with shapes they made themselves to create original multilayered prints. Students explored the combinations of different marks and shapes as well the effects created by their layering .
These artworks can be made with or without a press.

Sugar paper collage. Year 2

The students work with sugar paper collage pieces on a coloured card base
The image will be made up of rectangles, squares, triangles and circles cut out of coloured sugar paper, or similar. The joy of this is, if a piece isn't quite right then they can just correct it by sticking another piece on top. Ideas and patterns can be developed as they progress with final embellishments being added with oil pastels.

Tissue paper collage  Year 1

This workshop was based on the theme of nurturing our forests and wildlife
The  forest scene with created with tissue paper. It allows for imprecise sticking and they can learn how translucent colours change when placed over one another.
The woodland animals are cut out of paper plates and the strong colours of oil pastels used for colouring them in.

Print, Paint, Collage. Years 2 & 5

This workshop explores three different techniques of creating art. Printing with found objects, simple painting as well as collage using magazines and tissue paper. No specialist materials are needed. This can be run as a half day or full day workshop.

Mixed Media - Animals in the Wild - Years 2-6

To make monoprints you start by making paint patterns on a piece of plastic. Students can use brushes, their fingers, and even squirt the paint straight on to the plastic- a real sensory process. From this a print is made. Separate cut out animals were then decorated and stuck onto the dried monoprint.

Mixed Media -  Years  4 & 5

This project used acetate to overlay detail onto a monoprinted background. The students drew images in felt tip pen on the acetate and then painted onto the back with acrylics. A monoprint was made as the backdrop for the acetate painting. This workshop allows for working a variety of materials and processes in combination with each other. A half day workshop.

Acetate Painting Years 2-5

This is a variation on monoprinting and acetate painting. Students paint their background on card. While the painting is drying students draw and paint their detail on the acetate. Once both are dry they are sandwiched together.

African Batik - Year 5

The adire eleko method of Batik is where starch paste is used instead of wax as a resist. This makes it  safer and less labour intensive than traditional wax batik.  The workshop needs to be done over several sessions as the starch resist needs to dry before painting the fabric and then the fabric paint needs to dry before the starch resist can be taken off.

Relief Collograph - Year 6

A fun way to make  prints using minimal materials. It is a simple, experimental printmaking method which produces bold and colouful graphic images. This is a very accessible form of printmaking as it’s based on design rather than an ability to draw. Consequently it is suitable for both beginners and more able students. A full day or two half day workshop.

Monoprint & Collage   Years 3-6

This project used collaged detail overlaid onto a monoprinted background. The students made a bird from collaged magazine paper. They then cut out the bird shape. A monoprint was made as the backdrop for the collage. This workshop allows for working a variety of materials and processes in combination with each other. A half day workshop.

Cardboard Images - Years 3-6

Students cut out shapes from cardboard to make Fantastical Birds. They are then decorated before being glued  together.  A cane is taped on the back so that they can be freestanding in soft ground. Forms can be abstract or recognisable. In this case the theme was Fantastical Birds. A half day workshop.

Textured collage painting - Year 4

Emphasis is placed on shape and texture to encourage students to explore various effects that can be achieved when layering papers and paints to make a final picture. A half day workshop.

Abstract foil paintings - Years 3-6

Students makes shapes with string and cover it with heavy duty aluminium foil. The foil is then painted with acrylic paints and black marker pen drawing. The foil is an interesting surface to paint on – quite different to paper,it is very smooth, so the paint glides, and sits on the surface rather than being absorbed a with paper. The shiny surface adds an extra sensory element, emphasised by the raised string and black mark pen drawing.

 -10Intaglio collograph - Years 7 -10

Students used a variety of textures mainly from recycled items to build interesting textured printing plates to print from. Once completed students were able to apply coloured inks selectively to their plate for printing. They enjoyed using the press and transforming a blank sheet of paper into a piece of art. A two half day workshop.

Drypoint on card - Year 4 & 6

Drypoint is an easy technique to get to grips with and is a great introduction to printmaking. Students  scratch their image into a plate with a pointed tool. These create  lines that holds ink, meaning that the print reveals the drawing. The plate is initially covered in ink then the excess ink is then wiped off. This can get a bit messy!  The students then roll their plate through the press to transfer their print onto the paper. A half day workshop.

Year 6

Year 4

Breeze Block Carving - Year 3

Students worked collaboratively on the breeze blocks. Each child was able to spend time carving their chosen design into the breeze block. The blocks were then assembled to make a totem pole for the schools nature garden.
